Here is what she has to say about her work:
I am committed to making a profound difference in people’s lives, and doing it with as much ease and fun as possible. Investing in people—their skill, ability, happiness, power and self-expression—provides a payoff to business that is undeniable.
I grew up on a Wisconsin dairy farm. While my backgrounds in management, training & development, and psychology have been invaluable and have contributed greatly to my consulting work, my work ethic and deep human grounding came from growing up on a farm. Farm work has to be performed in a daily dance with nature, and nature doesn’t negotiate. You have to deliver what the day demands. Let me share some lessons from the farm that I think are relevant to an ordinary person’s workday:
- Keep your skills sharp and your equipment ready.
- Don’t start the tractor unless you are ready to drive.
- If something breaks, fix it.
- If you don’t have the right tool, make one.
- Follow the rules. After that you can get creative.
- Make sure that every year you learn some entirely new area.
- Make hay while the sun shines.
Over the past several years many organizations have given me the opportunity to contribute to their growth, profitability and happiness. It has been a privilege to do so. It has sharpened my awareness of the beauty and vulnerability of the human being, of our drive to better ourselves, to produce, to express, to perform. What a wonderful work life I have!
